We are having a serious drought and it doesn’t appear to be getting any better in the near future. We depend on water for life and it is not only our area of the country that is suffering. Everything that we do personally to conserve water seems like a “drop in the bucket,” but together we can fill a bucket with just small changes that are easy to make. For instance, did you realize that if you leave the water running while brushing your teeth or shaving you can use up to 10 gallons a day. That is significant. Let’s work together to save water, Texas!
If you love your baths, try limiting the amount and take some showers instead to save up to 70 gallons of water each time depending on the size and depth of your tub.
I love the new low-flow showerheads. Mine saves half of the water normally used for showering but the spray is wonderful and you never miss the water it is saving for you.
The high-efficiency commodes used to disappoint consumers because they did not flush as well, but check out the ones on the market today. They do an excellent job and actually can save up to 19 gallons per person a day!
Plumbing leaks are also a huge source of wasted water. According to the EPA, we’d save 10,000 gallons per year simply by fixing leaking plumbing fixtures. To learn more about what you can do to conserve water in your home, visit the WaterSense website.
None of these small changes will dramatically affect your lifestyle and you will feel good that you are doing something to make a difference.
