Memorial Day – Honoring Those Who Gave All

May 24, 2018 by Dorothy Skinner Leave a Comment

A red poppy for Memorial Day.It is officially the start of the summer season and we are planning the first picnics and camping trips for this weekend. Let’s use some of this time to teach our children the meaning of this celebration. We respect and honor those men and women that have died so we may live in freedom in this great country and we thank the families that have had to carry on without them.

The National Moment of Remembrance encourages all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to the nation. As Moment of Remembrance founder Carmella LaSpada states: "It's a way we can all help put the memorial back in Memorial Day."

“We Shall Keep the Faith”
By Moina Michael

Oh! You who sleep in Flanders fields,
Sleep sweet – to rise anew!
We caught the torch you threw
And holding high, we keep the Faith
With All who died

We cherish, too, the poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led;
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies,
But lends a lustre to the red
Of the flower that blooms above the dead
In Flanders field

And now the Torch and Poppy Red
We wear in honor of our dead
Fear not that ye have died for naught;
We’ll teach the lesson that you wrought
In Flanders field

Spring is in the air and so is the desire to get at the Spring cleaning. While you are planning all the things you plan to tidy up inside and outside your home to get ready for summer – don’t forget that it is a good idea to have your AC condensate lines cleaned out and ready for the air conditioning season as well.

How to Know if Your Outside Faucet Froze This Winter

April 17, 2018 by Dorothy Skinner Leave a Comment

Spring has sprung in Plano, TX – and the evidence is popping out all around us.

Now is the time to look for a previously frozen outside faucet and fix small leaks before they become big problems. We are anxious to get to blowing or raking the leaves off the yard that have been blowing around and let’s get that grass out where we can see it. Time to hook up the garden hose and give the patio a wash down.

OH NO – there appears to be water coming out from the brick when you turn on the hose bib and that is not supposed to happen. What is causing that?

Simple Gas Line Leak Test Can Save Your Life

November 25, 2017 by Dorothy Skinner Leave a Comment

With the actual Thanksgiving Day in our rearview mirror, many of us are still enjoying the holiday over the weekend. I know I am and hope you are too. We are still going to have family time with the ones that we have gotten together with yet. It’s my favorite holiday time and season.

Meanwhile, online and brick and mortar stores are frantic to get you in to make an unbelievable Black Friday deal. I personally don’t care to rush around in a store and try to beat someone else to a special buy. But if you enjoy doing that I hope you have a successful shopping experience.

Happy Thanksgiving – and a Holiday Cleanup Tip

November 17, 2017 by Dorothy Skinner Leave a Comment

Happy Thanksgiving from Gary's Quality Plumbing.Thanksgiving is just about here. I am so very thankful for so many things. God has blessed me richly with family, health and safety. Over the years I have learned that it is important to count your blessings and never take anything or anyone for granted. This will be my 4th Thanksgiving without my husband Gary.  We had six children, 3 boys and 3 girls, and as a result have a very big family as they have all had children of their own. It is getting difficult to have just one Thanksgiving location for dinner. I am looking forward to seeing many grand and great-grand  kids at some point.  The main thing is that we have set aside some time to thank God for his goodness and mercy and grace in our lives.

From  our family to your family Gary’s Quality Plumbing wishes you a very Happy Thanksgiving.

It is Veteran’s Day Today – We Remember Why

November 10, 2017 by Dorothy Skinner Leave a Comment

Have you noticed that the leaves are subtly turning here? I don’t have any trees that turn colors when I look out my window and so it was really a beautiful sight to drive along the creek and park near my house and see the colorful trees lining the area. It is time to enjoy them because in a blink the color will disappear. We don’t always have a Fall season to count on because it seems like we go directly from summer to winter here. I love this time of year when we get a break from air conditioning and heating for a short while.
