Keep Your Foundation Watered to Protect Your Investment

October 7, 2012 by Dorothy Skinner 1 Comment

The last couple of months have been dry again, and we want you to know that watering your foundation protects it from some of the shrinking and hardening that can impact the plumbing inside your home.

Fall scenery.Sewer, gas, and water lines lie under and inside the cement that is the foundation of your home. When the hard dirt surrounding the pipes contracts and moves, it can get pressed up against the pipes. As the ground continues to shift, it behaves in a saw-like motion that can eventually wear away areas where the pipes might already be weak.

Add to that the large tree roots searching for moisture, and you can have quite a situation on your hands.

If you’re already experiencing foundation distress, you’ll be noticing cracks in your walls and windows, and doors not shutting correctly or getting stuck. Pay extra attention to unusually high water bills, pools of water, or the odor of gas if you are.

Here’s one test you can easily perform at your water meter. Watch this video from the City of Plano, and call us if you’re concerned about a water leak in your home or yard.

We’ll be right over! 972-424-6479.
