Just How Available is Gary’s Quality Plumbing?

December 7, 2010 by Dorothy Skinner Leave a Comment

Ever wonder if you can count on us after-hours? Well, we’re not an emergency service company, but we are a family-owned and compassionate company – and we thought we should let you know how much you mean to us.
Phone.
Generally speaking, our last call at the end of the day ends when we can reasonably finish a call. We do finish service calls most days. Some types of things, however, need to be handled to a stopping point and then finished the next day. We are happy to provide work for our employees that allows for our family values, but occasionally we have to extend our hours to accommodate a situation that comes up. And we’re happy to do it!

We normally close for weekends and holidays, but we’ll help with major emergencies that cannot wait until the next business day. We check our voicemail frequently so we can handle these problems. However, we may only be able to advise on how to temporarily shut down malfunctioning equipment as our suppliers are closed the same days as well.

We hope this helps you understand how we help you even though we’re not considered an emergency service company. There are advantages to working with a smaller family business!

December 3, 2010 by Dorothy Skinner Leave a Comment

Gary's Quality Plumbing on Facebook.

We love to hear from our N.E. Dallas community, and now it’s even easier to stay involved. A couple of months ago we added another Twitter handle, @FixPlumbingLeak, and we recently launched our Facebook page last month!

Please stay engaged with us on our new page. Your interaction with us is very important to the way we’re doing business. Staying on top of marketing trends isn’t as easy as it used to be. These days so many of our customers use Facebook, it’s just natural that we would end up there, too!

We don’t have a lot of experience in this area, though, and we’re counting on you savvy Facebook users to help us build up our reputation there. Please check in with us once and awhile, and take a minute to ‘Like’ our page, too.

Thank you!

Best Practices: Stop a Plumbing Leak Now

November 16, 2010 by Dorothy Skinner Leave a Comment

Take precautions when you notice that turning a handle won’t cause water to completely stop. Plumbing leaks will only get worse over time. If a faucet washer is already worn out, applying more force can actually do more harm than good. You don’t want to strip the threads. If you do go that far, turn off the water under the sink at the source so that your faucet will stop running.

The leak grows. It’s a good domestic practice to regularly go around your house and make a mental note of the state of your faucets. Don’t forget the faucets that exist behind your washer and under the kitchen sink, connecting the dishwasher and refrigerator to the main water line.

Next, take a good look around the outside of your home. Outside hosebibs are easy to overlook, and during the colder months, even more susceptible to unnoticed problems. Be sure to disconnect your hose before a freeze. Outside hosebibs that freeze usually do not cause any trouble until they start to thaw. You may notice a wet spot on your carpet in the closet for instance.

Another thing to quickly take notice of is the ceiling of a two or more story building. If water is leaking somewhere overhead, you need to know about it before it gets out of control. Pay attention to the flooring around toilets, dishwasher and washing machine. If there is cracked and blistered paint, or water-damaged material, it could be a leak that is intermittent, happening only when a certain fixture is used,  but not constantly. Those situations still need to be corrected immediately to salvage the remaining building materials and keep serious rot and mold from happening.

Tell us your plumbing leak discoveries. Everyone has some sort of disaster they can remember – share yours here!

Professional Perspectives: Fluoride in Tap Water

November 3, 2010 by Dorothy Skinner 1 Comment

This short video asks us some good questions about the safety of some of the chemicals we use regularly and are even present in our water supplies. We don’t believe in being alarmists or fear promoters, but sometimes communities do things over and over out of habit, without realizing there might be better choices. We’ve been aware of this concern for some time, and as tastefully as it is presented here, thought it only responsible to share this video with you. Please leave us your comments.

Bradford White Water Heaters Are Four for Four

October 18, 2010 by Dorothy Skinner 2 Comments

According to the CLEAReports by Clear Seas Research, our own company favorite – Bradford White water heaters – are still the brand most purchased by plumbing contractors nationwide for the fourth year in a row. Why? In our opinion, it’s because they continue to be the most dependable water heater on the market.

This American made water heater is solid, long lasting and easy to repair. They have the best gas control valve on the market. Engineered with quality in mind, Bradford white water heaters continue to outperform their competition. It’s nice to be involved with a company that takes excellence into consideration.

Rusty old water heater. You can’t get a Bradford White at your local home improvement store, but you can get one through us. Make sure you take some time this weekend to look at the date on your water heater. It will be on a panel on the side of your water heater.

If it’s out of date, start paying attention to it. Give it a little inspection by checking around the base to see if there’s moisture present. We highly recommend getting it replaced before it leaks water everywhere and makes an awful mess.

And when you decide to replace your water heater, call us to install a new one and remove the old. We’ll make sure it’s installed up to code and safely situated.
