TWO THINGS we are thinking about today. The holiday season is here. I know that it’s coming earlier every year, right?
- Preparation. Company’s coming and we want to make sure that everything is up and running properly. By “running” I mean that your drains aren’t going to back up and cause a mess and embarrassment. Check to see if toilets are flushing correctly and if your sinks, shower or tub drains seem a little sluggish. Before the doorbell rings and guests arrive you will want to have those things taken care of.
- Control. You can avoid most clogged drain problems over the holidays with a few simple steps:
Don’t Flush “Flushable” Wipes
Those bathroom wipes that say they are “flushable” – THEY ARE NOT. Don’t believe it. Just about every drain cleaning we do requires removing these wipes. So keeping a separate covered container for them after use until carried outside to the trash can save you a big headache. Hey, put a sign on it!
Don’t Pour Liquid Fats and Oils Down Your Drains
Another thing to remember is that while you are cooking up all those delicious meals you are also finding yourself with used oils and fats that need to be disposed of. Do yourself a huge favor and have a coffee can or empty can near your sink while preparing food. That way hot liquid fats can be contained and disposed of with your regular trash when cooled. Used oils can be poured into jars with lids for disposal. Having these items ready will keep you from rinsing fats and oils down the drain and that can also save you a big headache. Hardened grease clogs drains.
Treat Your Garbage Disposal with Respect
Use your garbage disposal carefully and be sure to run plenty of cold water after use.
So the TWO Biggie’s are preparation and control and that leaves all the rest of the time for family and friends.
Happy Thanksgiving. We are thankful for YOU!
