Years ago all you needed to take care of our human waste was to dig a hole in the ground and build a little outhouse over it. A carpenter or handyman could do it.
Things are a little different now with our underground network of sewer pipe under our houses and under our streets.
Our neighbor, the gas station, a hospital down the way all share the same sewer that runs by our house.
Fortunately, with our modern plumbing and plumbing code, we are protected from the smells and disease that flow through those pipes. Within our houses are sewers and vent pipe and “P” traps that protect us from sewer gas and bacteria that could come in.
Everything works safely until something goes wrong with the plumbing and a friend or handyman is called in to fix a problem – or the homeowner tries to do it himself.
Many times it is done wrong and an unsafe condition is now created.
A water heater with no relief valve, traps on sinks that have been replaced with radiator hose and without any trap. DANGEROUS conditions. And we do see them!
