Can Most People Afford Green Living?
April 11, 2012
In August of 2010, Habitat For Humanity and Whirlpool Corporation teamed up to ask homeowners how they felt about green living. It might not surprise you, but out of 1,092 respondents nationwide, nearly half of those describing themselves as lower income believed living green was affordable, but felt purchasing a green home would not be.
71 percent of high income earners believed that they could both afford to live green and purchase an entirely green home.

What Are Circulation Pumps?
March 5, 2011
Often our water heaters are not located close to the faucets that require hot water. If you spend minutes on end waiting for hot water to come out your faucet, you may want to consider a circulating pump.
Circulating pumps are designed to sit on the line outside of the water heater. Forcing the hot water through the lines at a high rate brings it up to your shower, sinks and appliances much faster.
Many different pumps are available right now, using low-wattage and easily installed. Call us for more information on how you can experience faster hot water at your point-of-use. 972-424-6479

Fixing Minor Leaks Augments Energy Star
May 11, 2010
It’s tempting to shop at home improvement stores and think that energy efficient ratings are the answer to lowering your expenses. Often they are, but if you ignore minor leaks in your home around your fixtures or inside your toilet, you’ll really only increase your bills with additional monthly payments, not lower your living expenses. While efficient water heaters, washers and dishwashers are very beneficial over all, don’t make the mistake of neglecting those leaky sink handles. It will take the combined effort of Energy Star and regular maintenance before you will see significant changes to your bills.
If you find yourself continually replacing the washers in your faucet handles or calling a plumber to do so, it may be time to upgrade to a higher quality fixture. Some things can’t really be helped, like if those handles receive a higher volume of use than average, but if under normal use you believe you are experiencing more washer replacements than should be necessary, again, consider purchasing a fixture your local plumber recommends versus a fixture that really only offers aesthetic quality for the dollars spent.
We’d like to hear from you. Are there Energy Star appliances that you either endorse or are unhappy with? Leave us your comments below!
